Nearly half a million electric vehicles were sold from January to May, says Edmunds. That tally accounts for approximately 6.9% of all new vehicle buys. So, while EVs remain a relatively small percentage of the vehicles bought in the U.S., people are purchasing them.
The good news is there are more makes and models available than ever. So, those ready to dip their toes in the waters or jump in with both feet have many options.
Here are 16 of the best EVs of 2024. There’s never been a better time to weigh your options.
Kia EV9 GT-Line

Kia’s on a roll. It’s seized the opportunity to reinvent itself during the EV revolution. The Kia EV9 GT-Line offers 379 hp with 516 lb.-ft. of torque, two-motor AWD, and much more. This EV is an option if you want three rows without buying a minivan.
Hyundai Ioniq 6

Cars.com named the Hyundai Ioniq 6 the Best Value New Car in the EV segment for the 2024 model year. That’s mighty high praise considering how many great new EVs were rolled out this year. Among other things, it offers 361 miles of range with the AWD trim. Oh, and you can fill the battery from zero to 80% using rapid charging in 18 minutes.
Kia Niro EV

Do you want a small electric SUV? If so, consider the Kia Niro EV. For its size, it offers a large cargo area, aesthetically pleasing styling, and sufficient power. Its 253 miles of driving range on a full charge isn’t exactly class-leading, but it’s more than enough for most buyers.
Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum

Imagine a truck that can go from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds. That would be the Ford F-150 Lightening Platinum. It’s also one of the hottest EVs available this year and can go 300 miles on a single charge. And the towing and payload specs are what you’d expect from a Ford truck.
Hyundai Ioniq 5

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is another EV that Hyundai hit out of the ballpark. Its unique styling, range of features, and comfortable ride are pluses. The 220-mile EV range lags behind some of the Hyundai Ioniq 5’s competitors. But it’s a vehicle that’s been well-received—and for good reason.
BMW i5 eDrive40

The BMW i5 eDrive40 is a special car. Edmunds, in fact, says “it’s a great pick for an electric luxury sedan” because of its “classy design, comfortable and quiet cabin, and extensive collection of helpful technology features.” It offers 295 miles of range.
Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 4Matic

Another popular EV this year is the Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 4Matic. Car and Driver reports that it achieved a 5.3 second 0-60 mph time on its test track. While it says the handling lags behind competitors, the EV still earns an 8/10 score.
BMW iX xDrive50

The BMW iX xDrive50 is an electric SUV featuring 20-inch wheels and 307 miles of range. If you’re a fan of the German automaker’s EV lineup, the BMW iX xDrive50 is worth considering.
Tesla Model 3 Long Range

“Tesla” has become so popular that the name is often used as a synonym for “electric car.” The Tesla Model 3 Long Range for this year offers 341 miles of range with the 19-inch-wheels upgrade. The EV has been described as fun to drive by reviewers online.
Genesis Electrified GV70

Another entry on this list is the Genesis Electrified GV70. With a length of 15.5 feet, a width exceeding six feet, and a weight exceeding 5,000 pounds, it’s fair to say the Genesis Electrified GV70 is a big boy. A dual-motor AWD comes standard. It also has 429 hp and 516 lb.-ft. of torque.
Rivian R1T

The Rivian R1T features a quiet cabin, strong off-road capability, fast acceleration, capable suspension to handle various road surfaces, and solid hauling and payload cred. The entry-level Rivial R1T has 533 hp and 610 lb.-ft. of torque.
Rolls Royce Spectre

The Rolls Royce Spectre is an EV with 584 hp. It sets the standard as far as luxury. While it only has 260 miles of range, it’s unlikely the owner of a vehicle starting at around $400,000 will use it as a road-tripper. Top Gear reports that the EV is “ probably the finest car in the world.”
GMC Hummer EV Edition 1

Does anyone really need a humongous SUV with 830 hp? Good luck fitting it in your garage. Even so, the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is one of the best EVs of the year. It’s rated at 390 miles of range, offers impressive towing capabilities, and is an off-road monster.
BMW i7 M70

Another highlight for 2024 is the BMW i7 M70, which can travel from 268 miles to 285 miles. With its 650 hp, the EV can go from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
Cadillac Lyriq

With compelling interior and exterior styling, a comfortable interior, and a respectable 314 miles of range, the Cadillac Lyriq is worth considering. That’s especially true if you want an American-made luxury EV rather than a foreign-made option.
Ford Mustang Mach-E GT

Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is an electric SUV. While it’s unlike any Mustang enthusiasts grew up admiring — it’s an SUV — the vehicle is pretty impressive. It’s a sporty vehicle that’s fun to drive, is “very well-tuned for trail braking,” and can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
